Radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has opened up about the part of his life that matters most to him — raising his children.
Long before the microphones, studio schedules and public recognition, Mwakideu says fatherhood is the role that defines him most.
The seasoned broadcaster is a father of three daughters, and he speaks about parenting with clarity, structure and intention.
In his household, routine and presence are non-negotiable. Family time is deliberately built into the week, with Fridays reserved for movie nights and Saturdays dedicated to games and shared activities.
During school days, his children are expected to spend time on homework before settling into an evening routine that includes prayers and storytelling — a moment he values for emotional bonding and guidance.
Discipline, Structure and Daily Routines
Mwakideu does not shy away from discipline. He describes himself as firm, believing that consistency and correction are necessary in raising grounded children.
According to him, boundaries are as important as affection, and children must understand consequences early. It is an approach he says prepares them for life beyond the comfort of home.
A Home Built Around Family
The values Mwakideu applies to parenting are reflected in the space he has created for his family. When KTN’s Art of Living host Nailantei Kenga visited his Nairobi home, the radio host revealed that the house was once in poor condition.

The home blends modern and classic aesthetics, with neutral tones such as cream, beige and white dominating the interiors.
Soft furnishings and warm textures were chosen deliberately to create a relaxed, homely feel rather than a formal or staged space.
Instead of standard seating, Mwakideu opted for a large nine-seater sofa to ensure everyone — family and guests alike — feels accommodated.
Personal Touches and Coastal Roots
His coastal roots also find subtle expression in the décor. Decorative elements inspired by Mombasa, including shells and sea-themed details, bring personal meaning into the home.
Outdoors, he designed a simple “man cave” surrounded by greenery, complete with a barbecue area for casual gatherings and downtime.
From Humble Beginnings to Stability
Reflecting on his journey, Mwakideu shared that when he first moved to Nairobi, he lived in a servant’s quarter after leaving behind his life in Mombasa.
Over time, he progressed from a one-bedroom house to a larger family space before finally settling in a quiet neighbourhood that suited their needs.
“We chose this area because it’s peaceful and ideal for raising children,” he said, noting that stability was a major factor in their decision.
