Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria's runningmate in Kiambu's governor race in 2022, Faith Mwaura, has defected to the ruling UDA.
Mwaura ditched Kuria's Chama cha Kazi and announced she will be contesting for the Roysambu constituency seat in the 2027 elections on the UDA ticket.
Receiving Mwaura at the party's headquarters in Nairobi was UDA national vice chair Kelvin Lunani, who encouraged women to seek elective positions in next year's polls.
Mwaura said she was excited and privileged to join President William Ruto's party.
"After careful consideration, I found UDA values align with mine. It is for that reason I decided to leave the small river to join a bigger one," she said.
Mwaura promised to be faithful and committed to UDA in serving Kenyans.
"I will champion President Ruto's re-election bid. I will work tirelessly towards that goal," she stated.
Lunani assured UDA aspirants for various seats that the party will conduct free and fair elections.
"I want to ask women to come out in large numbers to contest for seats on UDA because we will be fair to them," he said.
Mwaura expressed confidence that Ruto will emerge winner in the next election and with a huge margin.
On Monday, Ruto declared that the UDA-Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) coalition must secure victory in the 2027 General Election by a margin of between two and three million votes.
Speaking during the UDA National Governing Council meeting, the President expressed confidence that his political alliance had the strength, strategy, and national appeal needed to deliver a decisive win at the 2027 general polls.
Ruto told party leaders that the Kenya Kwanza administration had learned key lessons from the 2022 election, which he won by a slim margin of about 200,000 votes, stressing that future leadership required a broader public endorsement to ensure continued implementation of the transformation agenda.
The President strongly defended the growing cooperation between UDA and ODM, describing it as a necessary step toward uniting the country and ending the culture of exclusion that has historically followed elections.
According to Ruto, the UDA-ODM partnership is central to driving the transformation agenda that the Kenya Kwanza government has consistently promoted since taking office.
And on Tuesday, ODM leader Oburu Odinga reiterated the party’s commitment to democratic governance and constitutional change of government.
Oburu highlighted that these principles informed its decision to engage with UDA.
He emphasised the party's belief in democratic processes and constitutional change of government, citing these as the core reasons ODM agreed to work with UDA.
