R.I.P: Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, Wife to DJ Krowbar, Dies Following Prolonged Illness

Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, the wife of popular Kenyan gospel entertainer DJ Krowbar (Karumba Ngatia), has passed away.

According to a family statement, Joyce died in the early hours of Monday, January 26, 2026, at around 3 a.m., following a long and difficult battle with kidney-related illness.

A Long and Public Health Battle

Affectionately known as Joy, she had been open about her health journey over the years. Her struggles began in April 2022 when she was diagnosed with acute kidney injury, a condition that later progressed to full kidney failure.

The diagnosis marked the start of a challenging period for her and her family — one she previously spoke about candidly, including the emotional toll it took on her children and marriage.

Kidney Transplant and Subsequent Complications

In 2023, after a public appeal for financial support, Joyce successfully underwent a kidney transplant. At the time, the couple described the procedure as a major milestone and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they received from well-wishers.

However, her recovery was not smooth. Joyce experienced a series of medical complications following the transplant, which required repeated hospitalisations and close medical supervision.

Her Final Days

Towards the end of 2025, Joyce was hospitalised again after developing an infection, which doctors were able to manage. Sadly, further complications arose in early 2026.

She was discharged and briefly returned home about two weeks before her death, but her condition deteriorated soon after, leading to her re-admission for further treatment. She later passed away while receiving care.

Joyce is survived by her husband, DJ Krowbar, and their three children — Toria, Riri, and Imani.

The couple had often spoken publicly about their strong bond, celebrating 14 years of marriage in 2024 despite the health challenges they were facing.

The family has described Joyce as a woman of deep faith, resilience, and quiet strength, whose courage carried them through some of their most difficult moments.
