Nothing prepares you for the moment a job you believed was secure ends with a single sentence: “We’re sorry to let you go.”
The words land heavily, ushering you into a space no one really prepares you for—the in-between. Here are three truths this season is teaching me.
1. Loss is not just professional, it’s personal
Unemployment is more than a change in status; it is the sudden absence of rhythm, purpose, and visibility. Days once filled with meetings and momentum become quieter.
There is the silent struggle of updating your title to former, navigating unspoken stigma, and carrying the uncertainty of what comes next.
Even while searching and staying hopeful, the unfamiliar stillness can feel disorienting.
2. Control was always an illusion
In the pause, reflection becomes unavoidable. Looking back, it becomes clear that life did not unfold because I had everything mapped out.
None of us truly know the future or control the course of events that place us exactly where we are.
Realising this is both humbling and freeing. The weight of trying to hold everything together begins to lift.
3. Surrender is not weakness, it is survival
As the grip loosens, the shoulders relax. Surrender becomes an act of trust, not defeat. Ceding control creates space to breathe, to listen, and to remember that this chapter does not reduce me to a statistic or a failure
I am still living out my purpose just in a different, quieter way for now.
The in-between is uncomfortable, but it is not empty. It is a meaningful chapter, shaping what comes next with intention, depth, and grace.
