USIU-A Martials and Kisii Rugby players after their game at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho/ANGWENYI GICHANA

USIU-A Martials coach Tol Lagat has turned his attention to Saturday’s clash against newly promoted National Youth Service (NYS) Spades after his side finally ended their losing run in the KRU Championship.

The Martials thrashed bottom-placed Western Bulls 57–15 to register their first win in six matches and halt a five-game skid, a result Lagat described as a timely boost ahead of the crucial encounter with NYS. However, the coach admitted his side still has work to do before facing the Spades.

“The game was good, but we should have converted more of our chances. We are still struggling at the start of both halves, and that is the area we must address,” Lagat said.

He added that improvements made in training were beginning to show. “What we have been working on is now coming into play. It has taken time, but the progress is clear, and we are moving in the right direction,” he noted.

Despite the emphatic win over Western Bulls, USIU-A remain in relegation trouble, sitting 11th on nine points, and Lagat acknowledged that the match against NYS will be vital in their fight for survival. “We will tighten a few key areas before the NYS game,” he said.
