Faith Kipyegon during the launch of the "Dare To Dream Maternity Ward"/ HANDOUT

Quadruple World 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon has taken her legacy beyond the roar of packed stadiums and the glare of the finish-line tape, channeling her global stature into a transformative project at home in Keringet, Nakuru County.
The middle-distance great has partnered with her sponsors to deliver the “Dare to Dream Maternity Ward,” a new facility set to redefine maternal healthcare in the region through a collaboration with the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.
‎The new maternity ward is aimed at strengthening maternal healthcare in the region, where access to medical facilities has long been a challenge.
‎For years, expectant mothers in Keringet have been forced to travel long distances to seek hospital care, a situation that has contributed to preventable complications and deaths.

‎In a statement, Nike revealed that the decision to fund the maternity ward was inspired by Kipyegon’s bold attempt at the Breaking4 project last year.
‎“The project celebrated Kipyegon’s quest to become the first woman to run a sub-four-minute mile, a monumental feat,” the statement read.
‎Although the historic barrier ultimately remained intact, Nike said Kipyegon’s daring push created something even more enduring.
‎“Kipyegon’s effort, though not achieving the exact time, created a lasting legacy of hope and tangible development for women and families in Kenya,” the statement added.
‎“To honour her effort and legacy, Nike pledged to build a maternity unit in her hometown.”
‎Before the project, women in Keringet were required to travel approximately 35 kilometres to access hospital services, a journey that often placed both mothers and newborns at significant risk.
‎“The need was clear. Women had to travel long distances to seek care, putting lives at risk,” Nike noted.
‎The new ward is expected to dramatically improve maternal outcomes by ensuring safer deliveries within the community.
‎“The ‘Dare to Dream Maternity Ward’ provides essential services, ensuring safer births and healthier futures for the community,” the statement said.
‎“It directly addresses a critical local health issue, inspired by a global athlete’s pursuit of excellence.”
‎Kipyegon, widely regarded as one of Kenya’s greatest-ever distance runners, boasts a glittering career that continues to redefine middle-distance running.
‎Her overflowing trophy cabinet includes four World Championship titles over 1,500m and an unprecedented hat-trick of Olympic gold medals over the same distance.
‎She is also a five-time Diamond League champion, the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, the 2012 World Junior champion and the 2011 World Youth champion all over the metric mile.
