Police in Nakuru County are investigating the death of a 31-year-old mechanic whose body was found in a trench in Rhonda area.

According to police, the body of Martin Kipanga was discovered on Wednesday, several hours after his death.

Officers at the scene noted that the body had stab wounds to the stomach and chest.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and the motive has not been established.

Police said on Thursday that no arrests had been made.

Investigators indicated that Kipanga was well known in the area and had earlier left a local garage where he worked before heading home on Tuesday night.

However, police said the exact sequence of events leading to his death is still under investigation.

The body was moved to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and further inquiries.

Police said efforts to trace those responsible are ongoing.

In a separate incident in Kehancha, Migori County, police are investigating the death of a 52-year-old woman who died after her house was set on fire.

Police said a group of people descended on a homestead in the Namba Bridge area, where the woman, identified as Cathrene Wankuru Chacha, lived.

The circumstances leading to the incident are still being investigated.

Authorities reported that the woman sustained fatal injuries during the incident, and her body was later moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy.

No arrests had been announced by the time of reporting.

Police said they are investigating the matter and cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, noting ongoing efforts to address cases of mob violence.

Meanwhile, in Luanda Town, Vihiga County, a matatu was destroyed by fire after flames from a nearby garbage site spread to the vehicle.

Police said the matatu had been parked outside the local police station when the fire broke out.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire originated from a heap of garbage awaiting collection.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred on January 20, 2026.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
