The Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) has a new acting chief executive officer following the expiry of Sammy Naporos’ tenure.
Moses Kipsang Kipchumba, an accountant and seasoned financial management professional, has been appointed acting managing director with approval from the Ministry of East African Community, ASALs, and Regional Development.
KVDA Board chairman Mark Cheseregon welcomed Kipchumba, thanking Naporos for his service.
“The board expresses full confidence in CPA Kipchumba's leadership and experience and wishes him success as he provides strategic direction to steer the authority in its development mandate,” Cheseregon said.
Kipchumba brings over 26 years of experience and previously served as Director of Finance, Human Resource, and Administration at KVDA.
The board assured stakeholders and the public of continuity in operations and a sustained commitment to the authority’s objectives.
Established in 1979 under the KVDA Act (Cap 441), the authority coordinates programmes promoting sustainable development in the Kerio Valley region, covering West Pokot, Turkana, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet and parts of Samburu and Nakuru counties.
KVDA’s mandate includes wealth creation, poverty alleviation, irrigation, water supply, ecosystem protection, soil erosion prevention and combating desertification across its 107,089-square-kilometre jurisdiction, home to approximately five million people.
Among its new initiatives, KVDA plans to implement an extensive environmental conservation master plan to curb recurrent land and mudslides.
Cheseregon said the suthority will align with President William Ruto’s 15-billion-tree vision, working with communities to adopt better agronomic practices and cultivate trees and crops suited to local soils, strengthening the land and preventing erosion.
