The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced plans to host the country’s first-ever National Career Conference and Exhibition as part of efforts to better prepare students for university and college placement.

The three-day conference will be held from January 27 to 29, 2026, at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), bringing together students, parents, universities, TVET institutions and other key players in the education and training sector.

Attendance will be free of charge, with participants required to register online.

KUCCPS said the conference comes at a critical time, ahead of the main annual placement application cycle, which typically opens in late March or early April, with subsequent revisions carried out in May and June.

The forum is expected to equip learners with timely information to help them make informed choices before submitting their applications through the placement system.

“In essence, the conference transitions KUCCPS from a placement agency to a proactive career partner, ensuring that every Kenyan student has a clear, actionable roadmap for their professional journey,” the agency said.

Held under the theme 'Informed Career Choices: A Skilled and Competitive Workforce', the conference is designed to guide students on available career pathways while linking education and training to labour market needs.

It will also provide a platform for parents and guardians to better understand the evolving higher education landscape and emerging skills demand.

According to KUCCPS, more than 100 institutions are expected to participate, including public and private universities, TVET colleges, professional bodies and private sector partners.

Learners will have an opportunity to interact directly with institutional representatives, industry mentors and policy makers, enabling them to explore academic programmes alongside career prospects.

In a significant development, students seeking to pursue careers in hospitality and tourism at Kenya Utalii College will be able to access the institution through KUCCPS following a new collaboration between the two institutions.

KUCCPS chief executive officer Mercy Wahome said plans are underway to formally launch the collaboration before the start of the 2026 application cycle for placement to universities and TVET institutions.

She noted that the move aligns with efforts to expand access to specialised training while ensuring transparency and equity in admissions.

The KUCCPS placement system is designed to promote fairness and merit in access to higher education and training opportunities, while also enabling institutions to attract students from all parts of the country.

By centralising applications, the system seeks to ensure that qualified learners are matched to programmes based on their performance, preferences and available capacity.

Beyond exhibitions and mentorship, the conference will feature expert-led career guidance sessions, discussions on emerging job market trends and on-site KUCCPS clinics to assist students with placement-related inquiries.

Government officials and education stakeholders are also expected to engage in dialogue on aligning training with national development priorities.

KUCCPS expressed confidence that the inaugural conference will become a key annual platform for supporting students as they navigate decisions that shape their academic and professional futures.
