Often, the government has been accused of allegedly preaching water and drinking wine as far as austerity measures and reducing wastage in government is concerned. This is the case in one of the key ministries, which has historically been facing office space challenges. This has forced the ministry to hire a swanky block in one of the Nairobi suburbs. However, concerns are being raised that some senior level appointees have been purportedly allocated two offices, some three. However, they barely use some of these offices, especially those in the ministry headquarters. There are calls that the offices be freed up so that those who barely have space to operate from can be accommodated.

Recent remarks by a top opposition figure have annoyed a camp in the bigger outfit, with top allies of a principal now saying the man is getting off the limits. An ally of one of the senior principals was overheard saying that he initially didn’t believe their colleague had made such “demeaning and contemptuous” remarks. The legislator said it was now time to re-strategise as their counterpart was causing more damage than good. Is it the beginning of the end? Only time will tell.

Leaders from a region that recently hosted a high profile person are fighting allegations that they staged a show by hiring equipment and crowds to paint a picture of progress and popularity. In one particular case, as soon as the person left the venue, the equipment that was placed for display was quickly loaded into a lorry. In the other event, some residents are complaining that they didn’t get a share of the “facilitation” they were supposedly promised. Bloggers have reportedly been dispatched to clean the mess.

Is a veteran politician in the opposition ranks possibly working on a splinter opposition wing? The liberal politician has kept a low profile despite a key role in the wider opposition. However, he has been engaged in a number of meetings, often accompanying one of the opposition principals. One of the meetings that raised eyebrows involved another veteran politician allied to the ODM party. Some observers predict that the man is likely to make an announcement that is likely to shock some opposition leaders
