Facilitated by Gedeon Group, a Lebanon-based fashion retail and distribution company, the grand opening of the flagship Tommy Hilfiger store took place this past Saturday, 17th January, bridging the gap between international fashion brands and consumers.
The opening of the store signified a major moment for lifestyle brand fashion enthusiasts and Nairobi’s fashion industry budding growth, which has been exponentially notable.
During the opening ceremony, Gedeon Group’s co-founder Malek Gedeon noted, “Kenya is a market that is prone to growth”, indicating that was a key factor in ultimately choosing where to open the flagship store.
Westgate Mall is a strategic location as well, given that it is one of the country’s upscale shopping malls.
Other luxury brands in the mall’s portfolio include Hugo Boss and Mango.
The newly launched store offers a full range of collections, such as men and women’s apparel, footwear and accessories, affording East African buyers the same choices as other Tommy Hilfiger lovers.
Tommy Hilfiger is a global powerhouse premium lifestyle brand founded in 1985 by American designer Tommy Hilfiger in New York City.
Upon its conception, it bore the "classic American cool" aesthetic, effortlessly blending timeless preppy staples.
The brand draws from nautical influences, incorporates crisp polos, tailored blazers, chinos, and denim, and communicates a modern, youthful twist that fuses Americana heritage, pop culture, and confident, inclusive energy.
Though the Nairobi flagship store is the most recent, Tommy Hilfiger has other stores in Morocco (covering Northern Africa), and a couple of cities in South Africa (covering Southern Africa).
A flagship store is often defined as a brand's most signature retail location and is primarily the largest, and/or most visually impressive.
Shopping at the store is set to be an immersive experience, engaging the East African audience that “wants fashion, and to look stylish”, as highlighted by Gedeon.
Introducing Tommy Hilfiger into the country further emphasizes on the general appetite for and representation of luxury brands all over Nairobi.
Reaching beyond retail and fashion forwardness, Gedeon also noted that it would provide employment opportunities, and bring global fashion and enhance consumer choice, especially, directly to Kenyans.
Already, Kenya is a major fashion hub, having undergone incredible growth, with a great number of its youth expressing themselves with a renewed sense of versatility, and unafraid to experiment.
Tommy Hilfiger’s opening is bound to be yet another exciting chapter in the ever-changing tapestry of Kenya’s fashion industry.
