Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has firmly defended his decision to support Marion Naipei. This follows significant online criticism from Kenyans who accused him of bias.

Critics claimed he backed the 23-year-old without considering the other side of the story.

Mosiria, the officer for citizen management, recently shared photos with Naipei on Facebook. He released a detailed statement explaining why he chose to stand by her despite the public outcry.

Conscience Over Popularity

In his statement, Mosiria noted that he did not know Naipei before this incident. He stated his integrity and conscience would not allow him to remain silent about her treatment.

He described the non-consensual filming and distribution of her private videos as cruel, degrading, and unlawful.

“I chose to support her not because I lacked the option to join those criticizing her, but because my integrity, conscience, and sound mind would not allow me to stay silent,he said.

Mosiria challenged his critics to consider the human cost of their attacks. He asked what would happen if the shame and pressure led to a fatal outcome, such as the victim taking her own life.

"She is a mother. She is a Kenyan. She deserves protection, dignity, and justice under the law. I cannot crucify her to please a crowd,he added.

The official remained adamant that he is ready to lose his popularity if standing with Marion Naipei is all that it will cost him.

“Wrong is wrong, no matter who commits it. If standing for what is right makes me unpopular, then so be it. I will continue to speak, because silence only empowers abusers.”

The Night of the Incident

The controversy stems from an incident on 5 January 2026. Naipei had been in an online relationship with a US-based man for approximately one year. When they finally met in a local club, she alleges she was given a white powder to sniff.

Naipei claims the substance made her extremely dizzy and unable to walk. She alleges her partner recorded her in a vulnerable state after she refused to engage in a sexual act with him and his friend.

The resulting video was then shared globally across social media platforms, leading to widespread humiliation.

A Call for Dignity

Naipei has since apologised to her family and the public, admitting she was heavily intoxicated and traumatised.

Mosiria remains adamant that Naipei, as a mother and a Kenyan citizen, deserves protection and a fair hearing.

Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo has also intervened. She confirmed that the Ministry of Gender is engaging relevant agencies to review the matter.

The government has warned the public against further sharing the material to prevent additional harm to the victim. Mosiria continues to urge other victims of digital harassment to come forward and seek justice.
