Popular Kenyan actress and radio personality Wilbroda (Jacquelyn Nyaminde) has candidly shared her emotional struggle following her son’s transition to boarding school.

This week has seen thousands of parents across the country escorting their children to Grade 10 (Senior Schools), marking a significant milestone in the Kenyan education calendar.

For Wilbroda, the reality of an "empty nest" hit home immediately after she returned from the school gates. In a heartfelt social media post, she described a home that felt suddenly and jarringly vacant.

"We took our son to boarding school today for the first time, and I am back home, and the house feels so empty. The silence is loud!" she said.

Using a vivid Swahili metaphor to describe her emotional state, she added, "Na roho ni nzito kama chuma ya reli!" which translates to her heart feeling as heavy as a railway track.

She concluded her message by asking fellow parents how they were coping with the same transition.

Comedienne Jacky Vike (Awinja) also weighed in, lightheartedly suggesting that the problem wasn't the son’s adjustment, but Wilbroda’s own emotional attachment.

"Our son Xolani atakua sawa kabisa!!! Shida ni wewe," she joked, reassuring the actress that her son would be perfectly fine in his new environment.

The Grade 10 Milestone

The timing of Wilbroda’s post coincides with a busy week for the Ministry of Education as the first cohort under the current system transitions into Senior Schools.

This move often represents the first time many Kenyan children leave home for extended periods, leading to widespread discussions online about parental anxiety and the high cost of school supplies.

Wilbroda’s vulnerability has resonated with many "ordinary" parents who find themselves wandering through quiet hallways this week.

As her son starts his journey into Grade 10, the actress continues to receive a mix of "tough love" and empathy from her digital community.
