Swimming action at the Moi International Sports centre Kasarani/HANDOUTFourteen schools have confirmed participation in the Private and International Prep School Sports Association (PIPSSA) Kenya Invitational Swimming Championship, scheduled for January 31 – February 1 at Moi Educational Centre.
The confirmed schools are: Lukenya Academy, Moi Educational Centre, Moi Kabarak, Longonot Schools Naivasha, ACK Thika Memorial Church School, St. Bakhita, Dashing Dolphins (Ongata Rongai), Aga Khan Academy, KBA School, Viraj School, Makini Academy, Merishaw, Acacia Crest, St. Philip Neri School and Brookshine Schools.
PIPSSA Kenya Coordinator Mark Gaya confirmed that entries are still open, encouraging more schools and swimming clubs to register.
“The response has been very encouraging,” Gaya said. “We are seeing both established swimmers and young talents stepping forward. This championship is quickly becoming a key date on the national school swimming calendar.”
The championship will use a fully computerised timing and results system, ensuring precise timing, instant rankings, and professional-level race management.
This modern setup mirrors international swimming meets and provides young swimmers with the opportunity to compete in a world-class environment.
Beyond swimming, PIPSSA Kenya is also hosting an Athletics Championship on February 7 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani.
Gaya confirmed that schools and clubs are invited to register. This edition will feature elite Kenyan athletes, who will inspire and motivate the young participants.
“This is a season for sport, growth, and exposure,” Gaya said. “We want our students not just to compete, but to see and learn from the champions they admire.”
In addition to athletics, PIPSSA Kenya will organise competitions in football and skating during this term, providing more opportunities for student-athletes.
The sporting season will culminate with the PIPSSA Kenya Inter-County Sports Tournament on March 7 at St. Christopher’s School, Nanyuki.
This flagship event brings together schools from across the country in a festival of sport, featuring football, swimming, basketball, skating, taekwondo, chess, and modern dance.
The Nanyuki tournament blends competition with tourism, allowing teams and families to enjoy one of Kenya’s most scenic regions, known for its cool climate and proximity to Mount Kenya.
The swimming segment will be sanctioned by Laikipia Aquatics, ensuring high-performance standards and technical credibility.
Interest in the Nanyuki pool is already high, as it has also been selected to host the Kenya Aquatics National Junior Swimming Championship later this year.
PIPSSA Kenya is emerging as a major platform for school sports in the country. Young athletes get exposure to professional setups and elite athletes.
Swimming, athletics, football, and skating are among the core sports, with multi-sport festivals adding both competitive and cultural experiences.
