The arrival of American YouTube sensation IShowSpeed in Nairobi has sparked a heated debate on social media.
While thousands of fans flocked to the streets on Sunday to catch a glimpse of the streamer, local beauty and lifestyle influencer Corazon Kwamboka was far from impressed.
Through a series of Instagram stories, Kwamboka questioned the logic of grown men who spent their time chasing celebrities through the city.

“Loud, Proud, and No Shame”
As videos circulated showing crowds of men surrounding the streamer’s vehicle, Kwamboka took to her platform to voice her disapproval. She suggested that the high-energy reception revealed a different side to many local men.
"IShowSpeed really proved men are the real groupies. Loud. Proud. No shame. Meanwhile, someone is losing sleep over a man."
She further pointed out the irony in how these men interact with their own partners.
Sharing a video of fans leaning into the streamer's car, she joked that while many men act "nonchalant" or indifferent toward their girlfriends' interests, they showed no such restraint when chasing a male celebrity.
Questioning the Purpose
The influencer argued that the chaotic scenes did little to truly promote the country. She suggested that if the objective was to boost tourism, the focus should have stayed on Kenya’s iconic landmarks and culture.

Kwamboka listed several locations she felt would have been better to showcase, including:
• Maasai Mara
• Diani
• KICC
• Local food and views

She expressed confusion over why grown men were following the streamer with such intensity, comparing the fervour to a religious procession.

"But thousands of grown men chasing and surrounding one guy through the streets like he’s Jesus? For what exactly? He’s not feeding people, opening opportunities, or changing lives."
She concluded that the behaviour was not an act of patriotism, especially since the streamer was not providing financial support to the crowd.
Chaos on the Streets of Nairobi
IShowSpeed—whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr.—visited Kenya as part of a high-profile tour of Africa. The 20-year-old streamer is known for his erratic and high-energy content, which has earned him over 48 million subscribers on YouTube.
In Nairobi, his presence caused significant disruption. Large crowds followed his convoy, often making it difficult for the streamer to move. He also visited a wildlife park, where he continued to livestream to hundreds of thousands of concurrent viewers globally.

The Social Media Backlash
Kwamboka acknowledged that her comments had upset some of the fans involved. She noted that many "boys" were angry with her perspective but stood by her logical assessment of the situation.
Her remarks have highlighted a growing conversation in Nairobi about celebrity culture and the lengths to which fans go to interact with international stars.
