The worker told police she arrived early in the morning as usual and found the main gate locked, which was unusual. The breed of the dog was not disclosed.

She got into the compound through a fence and stumbled on the body of the woman lying outside the house with the family dog standing next to it.

She told police the dog was supposed to be in a kennel and it was unusual to find it there.

The woman locked the dog in its kennel and chained it before she went to check on the body while fearing the dog could attack her.

It was then that she discovered the deceased was naked with head and neck injuries. The neck had been mutilated by what was believed to be dog bites.

The deceased’s neighbours said they had met her on Saturday until late before they left her at her compound. She even saw them off at the gate.

Police said they were investigating the incident as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police want to establish if the woman was killed and the body staged at the scene.

Elsewhere in Mayanja, Bungoma County, a 65-year-old man was found dead in his compound after a suspected murder incident.

The incident happened in Nangeni market and saw Fred Wafula Mtulile killed, police said adding his son aged 28 was the suspect.

His body with head and both upper limbs injuries was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. The suspect was arrested for questioning over the murder.

The police said a jembe believed to have been used in the murder was recovered at the scene.

The motive of the murder was not known.

In Dandora, Nairobi County, a man was stoned to death in a failed house breaking incident. His two suspected accomplices managed to escape the scene.

The suspects are said to have broken into a house and stole a radio, a six-kilo gas cylinder, two basins and a cloth bucket. An alarm was raised alerting locals who responded by stoning the victim to death.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy as they warned against mob lynching.

Police want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and possible prosecution.

Mob lynching incidents have been on the rise both in urban and rural areas amid calls for action to tame the trend.

Up to three cases are reported daily, police say.
