Businessman robbed Sh900,000 in Narok Town

Police are investigating an incident where a businessman was robbed of Sh900,000 in Narok Town.

This was the second such incident to be reported over the weekend, prompting police operations targeting the gangs behind the same.

Another businessman was robbed of Sh835,000 after he had left two different banks in Nyali, Mombasa County.

The thieves broke into the cars of the victims and grabbed the cash after trailing them.

In the first incident, the victim told police he had travelled from Nairobi to Narok, where he had a construction project, while carrying the money in a brown envelope. He had withdrawn the money from a bank in Nairobi.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon.On reaching Narok Town, he parked his Probox car in the Muthurwa area and walked to the site.

He came back about 30 minutes later and found his car had been broken into, and the envelope which had the cash and a mobile phone was missing.

Police were informed and visited the scene as part of the investigation into the incident. Police suspect the thieves had prior information on the movement of the cash. A hunt for the gang continued on Saturday.

Police visited premises near the site to review security cameras to see if they could identify the suspects behind the incident.In the Nyali incident, police said the gang trailed the victim from two different banks where he withdrew money.

He first withdrew Sh635,000 from one of the banks and Sh200,000 from another.

He told police the robbery happened on January 10 at a premise at about 1 pm. He had been to two banks for the money.

The thieves are believed to have trailed him from the banks to the scene where he had parked his car and left for errands. They then broke into the car and grabbed the cash before escaping.

Police said they are investigating the incident and that they were reviewing security footage that may have captured the crime.

Most of such incidents happen out of an inside job, police investigations show. Police said on Monday they were pursuing good leads into the incidents.

Elsewhere in Ganjoni, Mombasa County, a woman lost Sh600,000 and jewellery in a housebreaking incident. The woman told police she had left for work and left her house locked.

She came back and found the house broken into and the Sh600,000 in cash, with jewellery valued at Sh500,000 missing.

Police visited the scene and announced investigations were ongoing to establish what happened.
