Murang'a Seal's Francis Memusi (L) and Dennis Munyovi vie for the ball against Aboud Omar of Kenya Police/ HANDOUT

Murang’a Seal will be hoping to stretch their unbeaten run in the SportPesa League to 10 matches when they face Mathare United at the Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday.

The Murang’a-based side went through the final stretch of 2025 without tasting defeat, putting together an impressive nine-game unbeaten run. Their last loss came on October 26, when they narrowly fell 1-0 to Tusker FC.

Seal responded strongly thereafter, beginning with a 2-2 draw against Posta Rangers before grinding out a hard-fought 2-1 victory over KCB.

Consistency followed as they registered successive draws against Kakamega Homeboyz (1-1), AFC Leopards (0-0), Shabana (1-1), Kariobangi Sharks (0-0) and Nairobi United (1-1).

They capped off the year on a high note with back-to-back wins, edging Kenya Police 1-0 before dispatching Mara Sugar 3-1.

Those results have seen Seal accumulate 18 points from 14 league matches, placing them comfortably in the upper half of the standings.

Team captain Joe Waithira has emphasised the importance of starting 2026 strongly.

“We are ready for the remaining three games of the first leg so that we can now start tackling the second leg,” said Waithira.

After today’s clash with Mathare, Seal will face Gor Mahia at the Kasarani Annex on January 14 before rounding off the first leg against Bidco United on January 18 at St. Sebastian Park.

Waithira credited the team’s recent form to head coach Osborne Monday, praising his influence on the squad.

“We have been performing well and playing good football. First of all, we thank God, and we are also executing the coach’s instructions well,” he noted.

“The coach is doing incredible work and pushing us a lot. The energy in the team is very high.”

The skipper also paid tribute to the fans, whom he described as the team’s “12th man.”

“Our fans have played a big role in our performance. Their support and encouragement have been very valuable to us,” he said.

“We urge them to continue turning up so that we can achieve even greater results.”

Seal will also be keen to extend their dominance over the Slum Boys, having enjoyed the upper hand last season. In the 2024/25 campaign, Seal claimed a 2-0 victory in the first leg before settling for a 1-1 draw in the return fixture.

Mathare United, meanwhile, head into the tie eager to return to winning ways following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bandari in their last league outing on December 21.
