Police are investigating the death of a woman whose decomposed body was found wrapped in a bedsheet in Muthurwa, Nairobi County.

The victim has been identified as Resa Lumbasi, 40.

Locals discovered the body on January 7, 2026, after noticing a foul smell coming from the house.

According to police, the body showed injuries to the head, and the house door had been locked from the outside.

The motive for the death has not yet been established.

The body was taken to a mortuary for an autopsy and further investigations, Nairobi County Police Chief George Seda said.

In Meru County, the body of a man, approximately 40 years old, was found on a roadside in Timau.

He was identified as John Gikundi Murungi.

Police said he had two stab wounds—one on the chest and another on the right hand.

The motive for his death remains under investigation, and the body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

In Siaya County, a 50-year-old man, Samuel Okoth, collapsed and died at a home in Nyandorera.

Police said a woman whose home the incident occurred at has been arrested and is being questioned as part of the investigation.

In Kakamega County, a suspect accused of stealing two chickens was killed by a mob in Matete.

Police removed the body for an autopsy and investigation.

Authorities reiterated that mob justice is illegal and urged the public to surrender suspects to law enforcement.

Police noted that mob lynching incidents have contributed to an increase in daily murder reports, with dozens of individuals killed each year before investigations are completed.

Most cases remain unsolved, and law enforcement continues to warn that those participating in mob justice will face serious criminal charges, including murder.
