
Two men, aged 20 and 17, drowned at Ragia Waterfalls in Njabini, Nyandarua County, on January 2, 2026, while taking a selfie at the site.
Police and witnesses said the victims were part of a group of 11 youths from a church who had gone to the waterfall for a hiking activity.
The two reportedly slipped and fell into the water.
Recovery operations were conducted over the weekend, with divers retrieving one body on Saturday and Sunday.
The search for the second body continued on Monday.
A crowd gathered at the site during the recovery.
Officials have urged visitors to exercise caution when near the waterfalls to prevent similar accidents.
Elsewhere, a man was electrocuted while attempting to break into a house in Nyalenda, Kisumu County, on January 3, 2026.
Police reported that the deceased had tampered with electrical appliances inside the house.
The body was recovered from the scene and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Investigations are ongoing.
In another incident, Jimmy Kitavi, an airport attendant, was electrocuted by a conveyor belt at Mombasa Airport on January 2, 2026.
He was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police said they are investigating the incident.
Elsewhere, two individuals were arrested in connection with a stupefying and robbery incident in Sagana, Kirinyaga County.
Police reported that two men were drugged and robbed of cash, mobile phones, and jewelry.
The suspects were traced to Juja, Kiambu County, where officers recovered the victims’ phones and several other devices believed to have been stolen.
The victims said they had checked into a restaurant on December 31, 2025, and were later found unconscious the following day.
They received medical attention and are reportedly responding well.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine if additional suspects are involved.
The arrested individuals are expected to face charges of stealing and stupefying in court.
Authorities have noted a rise in stupefying cases in the area and urged the public to exercise caution.
