Human remains found in bush identified as missing man in Mukaa, Makueni County

Police in Mukaa, Makueni County, are investigating the discovery of human remains believed to belong to a 42-year-old man who had been missing since March 2026.

The remains were discovered on September 1 in a bushy area on a family land in Mavivye village.

Police visited the scene and recovered a skull, jawbone, two thigh bones and a shoulder blade.

They also recovered a black jacket, striped white shirt and green T-shirt at the scene.

The clothing helped family members identify the remains as those of Benson Mbithi Mutwiwa, a 42-year-old man who had reportedly been missing since March.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mutwiwa may have been attacked by a wild animal, resulting in his death, although investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death, police said.

The recovered human remains were preserved at Kilungu Sub-County Hospital pending further investigations and examination.

And police are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found washed ashore at the Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe in Mombasa County.

The body was discovered on Tuesday, September 1, at the slipway Mtongwe jet area within the Kenya Navy Base.

According to police, KDF soldiers on sentry duty at the GPG Sentry Point noticed a body floating in the Indian Ocean at about 6:30am, when the tide was high. The body was subsequently washed onto the shoreline.

Police visited the scene and found the body of an unidentified African male adult in an advanced state of decomposition.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was removed and taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a postmortem examination.

Police are yet to establish the man’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Meanwhile, police in North East Kano, Kisumu County, launched investigations into the death of a 24-year-old man following an alleged fight over Sh20 at Obago village.

The deceased, identified as John Rao Otieno, died on September 1, 2026, after a confrontation with a colleague, police said.

Police said Otieno had been working with three other young men on a water pipeline leading to the residence of Prof. Ayiecho Olweny in the area.

A disagreement reportedly arose between Otieno and the assailant over Sh20 before the two engaged in a fight.

Police said the assailant allegedly kicked Otieno in the abdomen, causing him to fall down and die.

The suspect reportedly fled immediately after the incident.

Police visited the scene and processed it for evidence.

A physical examination of Otieno’s body reportedly revealed no visible external injuries.

The body was subsequently removed and taken to Othoo Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police are pursuing the suspect as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
