Police in Lang’ata subcounty, Nairobi, are investigating a domestic incident in which a 20-year-old man is alleged to have stabbed his father to death following a dispute over the cooking of ugali.

The deceased, identified as Joseph Okello, 70, reportedly died on Saturday night at Mugumoini location after a confrontation with his son, Peter Olwenye.

According to police and witness accounts, the disagreement arose during the preparation of the staple meal, with the elderly man questioning his son’s decision to begin cooking ugali using water that had not sufficiently boiled.

What began as a verbal exchange reportedly escalated after the father challenged the logic behind the cooking method, triggering a heated argument inside the house.

Witnesses said the confrontation quickly turned violent, with the suspect allegedly picking up a knife and stabbing his father several times.

Police said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the back and neck and died on the spot.

The suspect is said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack and is believed to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. Officers have launched a manhunt as investigations continue.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem.

In a separate incident in Nairobi, a member of the street family was burnt to death in Mowlem area.

The deceased was identified as Richard Wanjiru, 33, who was sheltering in a house when it caught fire in the early hours of Sunday.

The cause of the fire had not been established by Monday. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Kehancha, Migori county, a man and his 10-year-old daughter were shot and injured during a robbery attack.

Police said the two had arrived home on Saturday evening after closing their shop in the Kwiriba area when they were confronted by armed gang members.

The man was shot in the stomach while the child sustained a gunshot wound to the hand.

The attackers reportedly grabbed three button phones used for M-Pesa transactions before escaping. It was not immediately clear how much money was in the phones at the time of the robbery.

The injured victims were rushed to hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Police said a hunt for the suspects was ongoing as investigations into the incident continued.
