As schools reopen for the new term, bookshops across Nairobi have seen long queues of parents eager to purchase stationery and school supplies.

Early Tuesday morning, busy streets near major shopping hubs such as Kenyatta Avenue, Ngara, and Sarit Centre were dotted with anxious parents checking lists and comparing prices.

From notebooks and pens to uniforms and art supplies, demand has been high as parents rush to ensure their children are fully prepared for term one.

Bookshop owners say the rush is typical at the start of every term, with sales peaking in the first two weeks.

Despite the crowds, the atmosphere was largely orderly, with many parents forming makeshift lines and helping each other navigate the busy stores.

Most schools officially reopened on Monday, January 6.
