A boda boda association in Kwabwai Ward, Ndhiwa constituency, has donated learning materials to students from low-income families.

The Osani Boda Boda Achievers Group raised funds through membership contributions and local fundraisers before purchasing exercise books, pens, and sanitary towels for more than 300 students.

Group chairman William Adhiambo said the initiative targets bright students from needy families, with local chiefs helping identify beneficiaries.

Adhiambo explained that the focus on education is aimed at supporting students and improving livelihoods.

“Education is one of the ways of reducing poverty in society. We donate such learning materials to ease the burden on parents as schools open for term one,” he said.

The distribution event took place at Osani Trading Centre in West Kwabwai Location.

Adhiambo encouraged other well-wishers to support similar initiatives.

Kwabwai West Location chief Rose Nyaola said the support could help reduce school dropouts and teenage pregnancies, which are common in the area.

Parents and students who benefited from the donations expressed appreciation.

Parent Dorothy Adhiambo said the initiative has reduced the burden on families.

“We’ll spend money on other things such as pocket money and fees. I encourage the group to continue with the initiative,” she said.

Student Mercy Joy said receiving sanitary towels will help girls concentrate on academics.

“Most girls who have received towels will now focus on their studies. There are still challenges, and more support is needed,” she added.

Schools in the area are scheduled to reopen on January 5, 2026.
