Detectives are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man whose decomposed body was found in a flooded ditch in Konoin, Bomet County.

The body, partially submerged in water, had both hands tied behind the back and a cloth covering the mouth when it was recovered on December 31, 2025, police said.

Injuries were visible on the face and forehead, and the man’s glasses were found nearby.

Police said the man is believed to have died elsewhere before the body was dumped at the site. The motive for the death is not yet known.

The body has been moved to the mortuary pending identification and an autopsy.

Other incidents across the country

In Lungalunga, Nairobi, a woman was found dead in her home.

Police said the victim, identified as Mercy Achila, had visible injuries on her hands and legs.

Neighbours reported hearing an argument between her and her husband before her death.

Authorities noted that the husband was not present when the body was recovered and taken to the mortuary for autopsy.

In Makimenyi, Chepalungu, police arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a man found on the roadside.

The suspects are expected to face murder charges.

In Boya, Nyando, Kisumu County, a 12-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Nyando River.

The child, a grade four pupil, was with four other children at the time.

The group had gone to fetch firewood and decided to swim in the river, which flows into Lake Victoria.

Police said the boy’s body was not immediately recovered, and search efforts continued into the New Year.

In Kwale County, a driver died after his vehicle collided with an elephant crossing the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway in the Mackinnon area.

The driver, identified as Mohamed Farid Osman, 40, was travelling from Mombasa to Nairobi when the accident occurred on December 31, 2025, at around 11 pm.

The vehicle, a Subaru Forester, rolled off the road about 30 meters due to the impact. A female passenger escaped without injuries.

The body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police reported that 11 people were killed in separate accidents on New Year’s Eve, including four pedestrians, three passengers, two riders, and two drivers.

Another 16 people, including seven passengers, seven pedestrians, a pillion rider, and a driver, were involved in accidents under investigation.

All bodies were taken to the mortuaries pending autopsy.
