Police are investigating claims by a businessman that he was robbed of his pistol and Sh570,000 in Kyumbi area, Machakos County. The man is a licensed firearm holder.
According to the report to police, he had visited his gas plant on Christmas Day and was leaving the site when he was allegedly attacked by a lone man on a motorbike.
The victim said his car had become stuck in a ditch, and as he stepped out to check, the gunman allegedly pointed a firearm at him and demanded that he surrender the weapon he carried in a waist holster.
The man told police that the gunman took his pistol and an envelope containing cash before walking away to a waiting motorbike.
He said the pistol’s magazine fell off during the struggle, which he later recovered and handed over to officers at Kyumbi. Police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a driver and three passengers were reportedly robbed in Nyamira’s Ekerenyo area by individuals who had posed as passengers seeking a lift.
The driver told police that he had picked up two passengers in Rongo and later collected six more men in Kisii Town, who said they intended to alight in Nyamira.
The victims said the six individuals allegedly took control of the vehicle along the Konate area on December 26.
The attackers reportedly stole cash, mobile phones, shoes, and food items. One of the phones contained an M-Shwari account with Sh200,000.
The vehicle stalled along Magonga-Ekerenyo road after a puncture, forcing the gang to abandon it and flee. Police said they are investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, in Narok County, 16 assorted firearms and 31 bullets have been surrendered in ongoing disarmament exercises in parts of Angata Barrikoi area.
The weapons reportedly include nine AK-47 rifles, a G3, and other smaller firearms.
Officials said the surrender had been completed by December 31.
A 30-day dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed in the area to curb attacks that had reportedly increased before Christmas Day.
Local authorities say more than 10 people were killed and hundreds displaced in tribal-related incidents linked to cattle rustling and land disputes.
Top police commanders visited the area to announce the curfew and supervise the disarmament exercise.
Additional officers have been deployed to strengthen security operations. The situation has disrupted normal life, prompting calls for calm among the affected communities.
