Authorities have deployed additional police, including officers from the General Service Unit, to the disputed Kibiko communal land in Kajiado County after incidents left one police officer dead.
Three motorists were reportedly attacked and injured on December 23, with their vehicle vandalised by a group described as armed.
Police are pursuing those responsible.
Tensions escalated on Monday when a section of Kajiado leaders were reportedly blocked from accessing the disputed land.
Police officers reportedly barricaded roads.
The dispute concerns the planned subdivision of approximately 2,800 acres of communal land in Kajiado West.
The process has reignited long‑standing ownership disagreements between two community factions.
The conflict intensified on December 22 when surveyors moved onto the land to begin the subdivision.
One faction protested, claiming the exercise threatened their ownership rights.
Subsequent clashes between residents and security personnel on December 26 resulted in injuries, property damage, and the death of a police officer.
Residents have called on the government to intervene and restore calm, warning that continued unrest could disrupt families and lead to further violence.
Some noted that the land dispute has persisted for over 20 years and urged a long-term resolution.
Kajiado County Commander Alex Shikondi warned against individuals fueling violence for personal gain and said security agencies are providing protection only after reviewing documents submitted by the faction erecting beacons on the land.
Police confirmed that the investigation into the recent attacks is ongoing.
