Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has sent a message of condolence following the untimely death of Dr George Rae, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
Dr Rar passed away while undergoing treatment.
In a statement, Prof. Nyong’o described Dr Rae as an exceptional servant of the people whose contribution to public healthcare left a lasting impact in Kisumu County and beyond.
He noted that Dr Rae was an accomplished clinician, a visionary administrator, and a gentle yet firm leader whose commitment to public healthcare transformed institutions and touched countless lives.
Dr Rae served as JOOTRH CEO until February 2024, after which he continued to serve as a healthcare advisor within the Kisumu County Department of Medical Services.
In that role, Nyong'o stated that he remained actively involved in strengthening partnerships, mobilising resources, and supporting health sector reforms aimed at improving service delivery.
The governor noted that, beyond his professional achievements, Dr Rae will be remembered for his humane and inclusive leadership style.
“He believed in teamwork, listened attentively, mentored generously, and approached every challenge as a learner as much as a leader,” Prof. Nyong’o said.
On behalf of the County Government of Kisumu, the governor extended his deepest sympathies to Dr Rae’s family, friends, colleagues, and the wider healthcare fraternity.
Nyong'o noted that the county and the nation had lost a dedicated son whose life’s work strengthened health systems and restored hope to many.
“We mourn with you and share in your pain,” he added.
Nyong’o paid tribute to Dr Rae’s legacy of service, integrity, and compassion, saying it will continue to guide the health sector for generations.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement read.
