The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) in its weekly weather forecast outlines areas expected to receive rainfall across the country between December 23 and 29, 2025.
According to the forecast, most of the rainfall is expected in the southern half of Kenya.
The rains are set to continue across several regions, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, and the Lake Victoria Basin.
The Coast and parts of the South-eastern lowlands are also expected to receive rainfall during the forecast period.
The department said the rains will be intermittent, with some areas experiencing moderate showers while others record light but persistent rainfall during the week.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which include parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri and surrounding areas, are expected to receive rainfall at different times of the week.
Similar conditions are forecast for the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, covering regions such as Nandi, Kericho and parts of Uasin Gishu, where showers may be accompanied by cloudy conditions, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
In the Rift Valley, rains are expected in both the northern and central sections, with variability depending on location.
Areas within the Lake Victoria Basin, including Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya and Busia counties, are also set to experience rainfall.
The Coast region is among the areas forecast to receive rainfall, alongside hot and humid conditions.
While highlighting rainfall distribution, the Kenya Meteorological Department also warned of contrasting temperature conditions across the country.
Daytime temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius are expected in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, as well as parts of the Rift Valley, Western Kenya and the South-eastern lowlands.
At the same time, the weatherman forecast cold nights in several areas, with night-time temperatures expected to drop below 10 degrees Celsius.
The areas include parts of the Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro.
The forecast comes at a time when many Kenyans are travelling for the festive season.
The Kenya Meteorological Department advised members of the public to stay updated through official weather advisories and local forecasts, noting that weather conditions may vary from one locality to another.
