Public figure Jaymo Ule Msee has formally converted to Islam, marking a significant development in his personal life. The conversion was completed through the recitation of the Shahada, the foundational declaration of faith in Islam, in a guided ceremony witnessed by others.

The Shahada is the primary requirement for entry into the Islamic faith and is recognized by Muslims worldwide regardless of cultural or linguistic background.

Ritual of Conversion Through the Shahada

The ceremony followed the traditional call-and-response format in which the convert repeats specific Arabic phrases after a guide.

Jaymo Ule Msee recited the words “an la ilaha illa Allah,” affirming belief in the oneness of God, followed by “wa ashadu anna Muhammadan,” declaring Muhammad as the messenger of God. These statements collectively form the Shahada, which serves as the central creed of Islam.

Swahili Translation and Comprehension

In addition to the Arabic recitation, the Shahada was also rendered in Swahili to ensure understanding and personal affirmation.

During this portion, Jaymo stated, “nakiri kwa moyo na kutamka kwa ulimi,” a phrase emphasizing acceptance of faith both internally and verbally. This component reflects the Islamic requirement that belief be held sincerely in the heart and openly professed.

The Swahili translation further clarified the monotheistic position central to Islam. The phrase “hapana mola apasaye kuabudiwa kwa haki isipokuwa Allah” reiterated that no deity is worthy of worship except Allah.

Acknowledgment of Prophetic Belief

The ceremony also included references to Issa, the Islamic name for Jesus, who is recognized in Islam as a prophet.

This acknowledgment aligns with Islamic doctrine, which holds belief in earlier prophets as part of the faith. The mention served to affirm adherence to the broader theological framework of Islam.
