Grade 10 enrolment: KICD releases list of approved curriculum support books

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development has released an extensive addendum to the Orange Book.

The document details all approved Curriculum Support Materials for Grade 10 under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The list spans the Arts & Sports Pathway, Social Sciences, STEM, Applied Sciences, and Technical Studies.
Below are all textbooks and teachers’ guides approved for use.

Arts & Sports Science Pathway

In Music and Dance, approved titles include Hummingbird Music and Dance Learner’s Book Grade 10 alongside its teacher’s guide authored by Mary Ondiso and Naftali Korir.
Other selections are Mentor Music and Dance Learner’s Book Grade 10 (and teacher’s guide) by Anne Ndung’u, Ann Sylvia Muriuki, Patrick Oketch and Maxwell Osiemo Keraita; KLB Excelling Music and Dance Learner’s Book Grade 10 (and teacher’s guide) led by Marsyden Matsigulu; Moran Music and Dance Learner’s Book Grade 10 and its guide by Anthony Maina and team; and Distinction Music and Dance Learner’s Book Grade 10 with its corresponding teacher’s guide written by Thomson Michael and Otundo Otundo.

For Theatre and Film, learners will use Champion Theatre & Film Learner’s Book Grade 10 with a matching teacher’s guide from Doritex Publishing.
Also approved is the Distinction Theatre and Film Learner’s Book Grade 10 and its teacher’s guide by Morang’a Onyonka and Otundo Otundo.

In Fine Arts, the approved materials include Hummingbird Fine Arts Learner’s Book Grade 10 (and teacher’s guide) by Auma Gloria Oyongo and colleagues; Front Row Fine Arts Learner’s Book Grade 10 with a teacher’s guide authored by Catherine Kaggwa and team; and Mentor Fine Arts Learner’s Book Grade 10 with an accompanying guide by Clement Mugambi and Dalton Mwangi.

The Sports and Recreation learning area features the Mountain Top Sports and Recreation Learner’s Book Grade 10 with its teacher’s guide, both from Mountain Top Publishers.
Booklyst Publishers also offers the Booklyst Master Sports and Recreation Learner’s Book Grade 10 and the matching teacher’s guide.

Approved for Physical Education is the Hummingbird Physical Education Learner’s Book Grade 10 and its teacher’s guide authored by Elijah Gitau, Grace Nelly Wanjiru and Humphrey Chemjor.

English Language
Learners will access Moran Skills in English Learner’s Book Grade 10 and its teacher’s guide by Diane Omondi and colleagues.
Other approved titles include KLB Excelling in English Learner’s Book Grade 10 (and teacher’s guide) by Phyllis Mwangi’s team; Storymoja English Learner’s Book Grade 10 with its guide written by Winnie Biwott and co-authors; Hummingbird English Learner’s Book Grade 10 and teacher’s guide by Lucy Anzia and team; Oxford Head Start English Learner’s Book Grade 10 and its guide by Angelina Kioko and colleagues; and Highland English Learner’s Book Grade 10 with its teacher’s guide authored by Michael Olela and Esther Kibor.

Literature in English
Only one literature text appears in the section: Dreams Denied by James Karuga, published by Storymoja.

Kiswahili Language
Seven Kiswahili sets are approved.
These include Moran Kiswahili Chanana Kitabu cha Mwanafunzi Gredi ya 10 with its teacher’s guide by Boniface Ngugi and team; Oxford Kiswahili Fasaha Gredi ya 10 with its guide authored by Ruth Omache and colleagues; and Kielekezi cha Kiswahili Kitabu cha Mwanafunzi Gredi ya 10 with its Mwongozo wa Mwalimu from Mentor Publishers.
Other titles are Longhorn Chemchemi za Kiswahili Kitabu cha Mwanafunzi Gredi ya 10 with its teacher’s guide by Kenan O.
