Police are investigating an incident in which a mob rounded up three men from their houses in Naivasha and stoned them to death.

Police termed the incident criminal and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.

The mob accused the three men of being leaders of robbery gangs in the area, police said.

Police said they were alerted to the incident long after the men had been tortured, stoned to death, and their bodies set on fire on Sunday morning in Kayole village.

The mob escaped as police responded to the scene. The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy, police said.

Police said they are investigating murder in the incident.

Elsewhere, a mob attacked and killed a suspect linked to a series of robberies in Laare, Meru County.

This happened as the suspect led police to a hideout where a suspected accomplice was hiding.

An AK-47 rifle was recovered from one of the suspects during the Saturday incident. Sylvester Mwenda was attacked by a mob that accused him of being a leader of gangs terrorising the area.

This happened as police tried in vain to save him. His accomplice was rescued and taken to hospital in serious condition, police said.

Police are investigating the incident as they pursue more suspects in the matter.

Police have termed mob lynching criminal and urged members of the public to surrender suspects to authorities for processing and possible arraignment. Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend.

Police said they are investigating all reported cases.

In another incident, a 50-year-old woman was burnt to death in a fire in the Muguga area, Kiambu County.

The fire also destroyed the house she was in before it was contained by a fire brigade team from Kiambu County.

Four children who were in the house were rescued and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police said the cause of the fire, which occurred at dawn on Sunday, was not immediately established.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Metkei, Elgeyo Marakwet County, a miner was killed at a quarry.

Nelson Kiprono, 45, was excavating construction stones at the site when a wall collapsed on him.

His colleague who was present escaped with injuries.

Police said Kiprono was fatally trapped during the Sunday afternoon incident in Kamwosor village.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
