Afrobeats star Asake and Nairobi-based concert organisers Tukutane have released statements following a tragic incident that occurred during Asake’s show in Nairobi on December 20, which resulted in the death of a fan.
The singer took to social media to express his heartbreak over the incident, confirming the identity of the deceased as Karen Lojore.
In an emotional message, Asake said he was devastated by what happened at the festival and extended his condolences to the family and loved ones left behind.
“My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable,” Asake wrote.
He added that music has always been his way of spreading love and joy, making the loss even more painful. “It breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss,” he said, before offering prayers for the family and blessing Kenya.

Event organisers Tukutane also confirmed the incident in a separate statement, describing it as a deeply saddening loss.
They expressed their condolences to the affected family and emphasised that the safety and wellbeing of attendees remains a top priority at their events.

According to Tukutane, they are fully cooperating with emergency services and relevant authorities as investigations continue to establish what led to the tragedy.
The organisers noted that they would not speculate on the circumstances surrounding the incident out of respect for the family and the ongoing inquiry.
“We are committed to approaching this situation with care, transparency, and accountability, and will share additional information as appropriate and in coordination with the relevant authorities,” the statement read.
The incident has sparked renewed conversations online about concert safety, crowd control and accountability at large-scale entertainment events. As fans continue to mourn Karen Lojore, many have called for thorough investigations to ensure justice and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
