Narcotics seized following a daylight operation led by NACADA in a notorious backstreet area of Kimbo, Juja, in Kiambu County/HANDOUTThe National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized narcotics valued at Sh3 million following a daylight operation in a notorious backstreet area of Kimbo, Juja, in Kiambu County.
NACADA indicated that the operation was part of renewed government efforts to clamp down on the illicit drug trade during the festive season.
Officers from NACADA, the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), and the National Police Service (NPS) conducted the joint raid.
During the operation, authorities arrested a well-known drug dealer believed to have been operating in the area for an extended period.
However, his accomplice managed to flee the scene and is currently being pursued by detectives.
The raid yielded significant quantities of illegal drugs, highlighting the scale and organisation of the trade. Officers recovered more than 4,800 neatly rolled bhang (cannabis) sticks and 75 sealed sachets of cannabis, all carefully packaged and ready for retail sale.
Investigators described the haul as clear evidence of an active and structured distribution network targeting local communities.
Crucially, detectives also seized transaction record books from the suspect, exposing what authorities believe to be a sophisticated narcotics operation involving millions of shillings.
The records are expected to play a key role in mapping out a wider network of dealers and suppliers, with investigations now expanded to trace the full supply chain.
Attributing the success of the operation to a scaled-up festive season offensive, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa issued a stern warning to those involved in the drug trade.
“This is just the beginning. Our festive season crackdowns are intensified, and we are closing in. To the traffickers poisoning our communities, your time is up. We will hunt you down, dismantle your networks, and ensure you are all behind bars,” he declared.
Narcotics seized after an operation in Kimbo, Juja, in Kiambu County/HANDOUTOmerikwa emphasised that public vigilance remains a critical pillar in the fight against drugs, urging citizens to actively support enforcement agencies.
“We cannot do this alone. If you see suspicious activity, report it immediately. That suspicious package, the unusual traffic at odd hours—tell us,” he stated, encouraging members of the public to use the NACADA toll-free hotline 1192 for confidential reporting.
The seized narcotics and documents have since been secured as exhibits, with investigators focusing on apprehending the fugitive suspect and dismantling the broader criminal network linked to the Juja operation.
The arrested suspect is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday to face drug trafficking charges.
The Juja raid comes just days after another major NACADA-led operation in Narok County, where suspected counterfeit alcohol worth Sh3 million was seized.
During the multi-agency crackdown, more than 200 cartons of illicit alcohol were recovered, with preliminary findings indicating the use of fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps.
