The deceased was in the company of her mother and was heading to till their piece of land when the assailant, who had reportedly trailed her to the area, struck.

He hit her on the head before fleeing the scene.

Warugu was rushed to Kenol Hospital, where she received treatment before being referred to Murang’a General Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect was later apprehended by residents, who beat him up before handing him over to the police.

The woman’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, while the suspect was detained pending arraignment on murder charges.

Police said the woman had previously fled the man’s home following claims of domestic violence.

In a separate incident, a herder was killed and 31 head of cattle stolen from a farm belonging to a politician in Lolgorian, Narok County.

The body of the herdsman was found in a thicket with multiple injuries hours after an unknown number of attackers struck and escaped with the cattle.

Police said the cows were driven away and efforts to trace them are ongoing.

The area has experienced a rise in cattle rustling despite ongoing efforts to address the menace. The situation has escalated into tribal clashes that have displaced dozens of residents.

At least ten people have been killed in the area over the past two months in attacks and counter-attacks.

Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Eliud Lagat said police are pursuing those behind the attacks in the Angata Barrikoi area.

“We are profiling all those behind the menace and will be coming for them soon,” Lagat said on Thursday.

He added that more security teams have been deployed to beef up security and ensure residents enjoy a peaceful festive season like the rest of the country.
