Detectives are investigating the brutal murder of an eight-year-old girl inside a house in Tokomta village, Mulot, Narok County.

Police said her throat had been slit when the body was discovered on the evening of Wednesday, December 17. The motive for the murder was not immediately known.

The girl’s mother said she had sent her to a neighbour’s house to fetch salt, but she did not return as expected.

Hours later, family members began searching for her and discovered her body lying on the floor of the house in a pool of blood.

Her neck had been slit by the assailant, who police suspect to be known to her A blood-stained machete was found next to the body, and the suspect is said to have fled the scene.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as police said a manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.

In a separate incident in Itangi, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, a 30-year-old man, Peterson Kimenju, was killed in a fight with a reveller outside a bar.

The deceased was found bleeding hours after he was hit on the head by the assailant, who escaped. It was not immediately clear what sparked the quarrel that turned fatal.

In Githurai 44 area, a man was found dead by the roadside. Police said the man appeared to have collapsed and died at the scene during the Wednesday evening incident. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, in Kabati, Murang’a County, a man allegedly hacked his separated wife to death.

Pauline Warugu, 35, succumbed to her injuries in hospital following the attack on December 16 in the Riandegwa area, police said.

The deceased was with her mother and was heading to till their family land when the assailant, who had allegedly trailed her, struck.

She was hit on the head before the suspect fled the scene.

Warugu was rushed to Kenol Hospital, treated, and later referred to Murang’a General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The suspect was later arrested by members of the public, who beat him before handing him over to police.
