Kibera Soccer Women came from two goals down to beat Kenya Police Bullets 4-2 in an entertaining FKF Women’s Premier League clash on Wednesday at Marist University, Karen.

Police struck first through midfielder Linda Owino in the 12th minute after she danced through defenders to drive home the opener.

Kibera responded through Anna Arusi, who curled in a smart shot in the 38th minute to level the scores just before halftime. Arusi turned scorer again in the 62nd minute, steering a low shot into the corner to give Kibera the lead.

Puren Alukwe was on the mark in the 75th minute to restore parity, but Kibera’s belief showed in the final quarter with substitute Grace Wekesa heading home from a set–piece in the 83rd minute.

Late substitute Faith Mboya raced onto a loose ball to slot in in the 93rd minute to wrap up the win in front of a jubilant home crowd.

Kibera head coach George Okallo struck an optimistic tone heading into the next phase of the season, pointing to renewed energy within the squad after a challenging run.

He said that although the results against Bungome Queens didn't go their way, losing 3-1, the team remained competitive. He drew confidence from improved communication and encouragement within the group, adding that past defeats would not define them, as he now looks forward to the next assignments.

He said he is now targeting to score more than ten goals, as Kibera push on from what he described as a difficult period.

Scorer Arusi spoke about timing and confidence, saying she’d felt ready all match and was delighted to contribute when the chance came. Faith Mboya dedicated her goal to her teammates and vowed to be available for future selection.

Kenya Police Bullets’ assistant coach Leonard Odipo blamed concentration lapses as their main undoing.  “We started well and scored early, but in football, you must stay focused for 90 minutes,” Odipo said.

He said that, despite displaying a good game, they paid dearly for losing focus. He promised that the squad would regroup ahead of their next league challenge.
