Governor Stephen Sang opens new offices for the Kapsabet municipal board

THE Kapsabet municipality board has unveiled plans for key projects aimed at modernising the town in response to its growing population and commercial activity.

The board, a semi-autonomous institution under Nandi county government, was established in 2018 under the Urban and Cities Act, 2011.

Governor Stephen Sang presided over the opening of new municipal offices in Kapsabet, the county headquarters, applauding the board’s achievements in ensuring efficient service delivery.

“We are proud of the efficiency shown by the entire team managing the town. I urge proper planning for growth and inclusivity,” he said. Deputy Governor Yulita Mitei also commended the board for taking services closer to residents.

Municipality manager Alfayo Lel highlighted teamwork among stakeholders, board members, and staff as key to effective operations. Completed projects include a fresh produce market, non-motorised transport lanes, walkways, street lighting, and high-mast lights installed at Segut, Namgoi, Chebarbar, Baraton, Chepterit, and Kapsabet towns.

Governor Sang has launched new legacy projects worth over Sh2 billion, many located within Kapsabet. These include a Sh400 million new market, a Sh200 million main bus park, a new wing for Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, and the ultra-modern Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

Sang, in his second term, said the projects prove his critics wrong and called on residents to trust his promises. “Work is already underway, and with the support of President William Ruto, we are transforming this county,” he said.

The Kipchoge Keino Stadium, launched with support from Defense  CS Soypan Tuya, will feature a World Athletics-certified 400m tartan track, a 10,000-seat capacity expandable to 15,000, a FIFA/CAF-compliant football pitch, LED floodlights with solar integration, VIP/VVIP lounges, hospitality boxes, and a media centre for high-quality broadcasting. Sang emphasised the stadium will enhance athletics development in the region.
