Kenyan content creator Murugi Munyi recently posted a candid video on her TikTok addressing the realities of her dramatic weight-loss journey. In the caption, she wrote:
“Let’s be real. There’s no way you can lose 40 kg in a short amount of time and NOT struggle with loose skin. I’ve gone from 117kg in Jan 2024 to 74kg today.. I have the loose skin mostly on my tummy as well as on my arms. And even though it is not ideal, it is a lot better than being severely overweight, tired, uncomfortable and unhappy! I may consider skin removal surgery in the future, but for now I’m just enjoying living in a smaller body.”
Murugi Munyi’s Weight-Loss Journey
Murugi Munyi’s transformation has been years in the making. The lifestyle and body-positivity influencer first shared her desire to reclaim her health in 2021, after revealing that her weight had reached around 117 kg.
She admitted that her size was affecting her confidence, limiting career opportunities, and impacting her overall well-being.

“I was saying no to some opportunities because of how I felt about my body,” she told fans. “I needed a change.”
Her approach has been holistic, combining lifestyle changes, medical interventions, and mental resilience.

In 2022, Murugi underwent liposuction, removing about 8.7 litres of fat from her back, love handles, and stomach.
The procedure, which cost roughly KSh 600,000, marked a major step toward reshaping her body and taking control of her health.
Medically-Assisted Weight Loss and Lifestyle Changes
Earlier this year, Murugi adopted a medically-assisted weight-loss plan using Mounjaro, a semaglutide-based injection, alongside a clean diet and light workouts.
She emphasized that while the liposuction helped with stubborn fat, long-term success required discipline, consistency, and mindset shifts.
“I’ve had weeks when I was stuck at one weight and felt frustrated,” she said. “But I’ve learned that the process isn’t linear — what matters is progress, not perfection.”
By mid-2025, she had dropped to 74 kg, documenting the journey with honesty — sharing both struggles and milestones. Beyond the visible physical transformation, Murugi says the journey taught her self-love, patience, and gratitude.

“I’m proud of myself for doing the hard thing,” she added. “It’s not just about looking different; it’s about feeling alive again.”
