Citizen TV journalist Jeff Koinange has been off the air for several months, sparking growing concern among viewers who have noticed his complete absence from both television and public events.

The veteran broadcaster has not appeared on his prime-time news slot or his well-known interview programme, Jeff Koinange Live (JKL), since August 2025.

Neither Citizen TV nor Koinange himself has issued an official update, a silence that has fuelled widespread speculation online, with some Kenyans even fearing the worst.

Hot 96 Colleagues Reassure Fans

As rumours intensified, a member of the Hot 96 FM breakfast show team — a station where Jeff had been co-hosting — stepped in to calm the public.

Speaking on air on Monday, 25 November, presenter Fanya Mambo Kinuthia confirmed that he had personally spoken to Jeff the previous day.

“Take it from The Docket and from all of us who talk to Jeff once in a while — Jeff Koinange is alive and well. Jana tulichat. We spoke, and he’s okay," he told listeners. “Ignore those rumours on social media. He doesn’t want to respond to every barking dog on the street.”

Kinuthia added that he had been inundated with messages from anxious Kenyans asking about Jeff’s whereabouts.

“I keep telling people he is fine. As Docket members, we talk to him — that nonsense should stop. These are the same people who were ‘killing’ Kibaki before his time. Bad news is what sells for them,” he said.

Jeff’s co-host, Patrick Igunza, echoed the reassurance, noting, “He is very much okay. Rumours always reveal more about the person spreading them than they do about the truth. The truth has no agenda, but rumours have many authors.”

Jeff Breaks His Silence Directly

In a separate development, Jeff finally responded personally to the speculation. His first direct message came through a WhatsApp reply to media personality Xtian Dela, in which he wrote, “Bro Bro Bro I’m ALIVE and KICKING.”

This brief note marked his earliest public confirmation since he quietly stepped away from television in August, a period marked by intense online discussions about his wellbeing.

Maina Kageni Shares a Video Update

A few weeks earlier, radio presenter and close friend Maina Kageni had offered another glimpse into Jeff’s situation.

On 28 October, Maina posted a TikTok video showing the two walking and chatting. Jeff appeared relaxed, healthy and in good spirits.

Maina captioned the video, “Jeff is doing great and will be back on our screens very soon,” a message that eased public concern and became the first visual confirmation of the journalist in months.

Fans Await His Return

Jeff’s silence on social media had added to the mystery. His last posts on Facebook and X were dated 25 October 2025, while his most recent Instagram update was on 24 October during an online Cowboys-themed event.

With multiple reassurances now coming from trusted colleagues and Jeff himself, Kenyans appear more hopeful that the celebrated broadcaster will return to their screens in the near future.
