In a viral video shared widely on social media, Nairobi County Women Representative Esther Passaris directly endorsed Karen Nyamu for the women representative seat in 2027.
Passaris emphasized that she believes Nyamu is capable of taking on the role and representing Nairobi women effectively.
She addressed Nyamu personally, stating:
"Karen is not bold enough, so I am going to do this for her. I said I was not going to run for women rep in 2027 and the reason is because it is a representative seat and I have gone for two terms. I need to look for something else to do. She is one of the contenders for the seat. So Karen, don’t come here and say you’re thinking you want to run for it in 2027—we need to remove you from the opinion vote for the senator."
Passaris’ endorsement is significant because it could influence public perception and voter alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
By publicly backing Nyamu, Passaris positions her as a credible and serious contender while signaling a smooth transition in leadership for the women representative position.

Esther Passaris: A Two-Term Women Representative
Esther Passaris has served as Nairobi County Women Representative since 2013. During her tenure, she has championed women empowerment, youth initiatives, and public service projects across Nairobi.
Passaris is known for her hands-on approach, regularly engaging directly with constituents and participating in community development programs.
Having served two terms, she explained that she is seeking new challenges outside the women representative role, citing the need to pursue other professional and political avenues.
Her decision to step down marks a notable shift in Nairobi’s political landscape and opens the field to emerging leaders.

On October 17, 2024, she voted to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, emphasizing the importance of political maturity among presidential candidates and asserting that personal friendships do not override justice.
Her legal expertise and active political engagement have positioned her as a formidable contender for the Nairobi Women Representative seat in 2027, now strengthened by Passaris’ public endorsement.
Reactions Online
The endorsement video quickly went viral, sparking diverse reactions online. Supporters of Nyamu praised Passaris for her mentorship and the symbolic transfer of political influence.
Meanwhile, some social media users expressed surprise at the direct and somewhat blunt tone of the endorsement, noting that it was unusual for an outgoing politician to openly “guide” a potential candidate in such a public manner.
Despite this, the overall response trended positively, with discussions centering on succession planning, women in leadership, and Nairobi’s political future.
