A US TikTok influencer, who commands nearly 3 million followers, has been ordered to pay a substantial sum after a jury found she played a part in ending her manager's marriage.
Brenay Kennard must pay $1.75 million [Ksh 227.2 M] to the former wife of her manager.
The civil lawsuit was filed in North Carolina by Akira Montague, the ex-wife of Tim Montague, the manager.
The jury ruled that Kennard was responsible for destroying their marriage.

A Rare Lawsuit
According to an NBC report, the massive financial award was made under specific North Carolina legislation.
North Carolina is one of the few states in the United States that maintains a law allowing a spouse to sue a third party for breaking up a marriage.
The two claims leading to the judgment were 'alienation of affection' and 'criminal conversation'. The majority of the penalty, $1.5 million, was awarded for alienation of affection.
An additional $250,000 was granted for criminal conversation. No criminal charges were brought against the influencer.
Accusations of Deception
The lawsuit detailed how the social media star allegedly interfered with the relationship.
Court documents accuse Kennard of engaging in behaviour designed specifically to seduce the married man. The married man was also the influencer’s manager.
It was alleged that Kennard befriended Akira Montague. She then used information gained from that friendship to pursue the husband.

The court documents cited explicit messages and flirtatious conduct as part of the behaviour.
The former wife discovered the affair in January 2024. This happened after she saw a video of the couple inside her home.
Kennard was also accused of flaunting her affair in both public and private places.
"She has received justice from losing her husband and the father of her children".
The Family Impact
Akira Montague claimed that the affair caused severe mental anguish. She also alleged that it resulted in damage to her health.
Furthermore, she stated that the actions deprived her children of a stable, two-parent household.
The affair prompted the husband, Tim Montague, to leave his family. He then relocated with Kennard to Greenville. The influencer is currently in a relationship with the former manager.
Akira Montague’s attorney, Robonetta Jones, commented that her client had finally "received justice".
