Prominent national leaders and members of the creative industry have come forward to support the burial of gospel musician Betty Bayo, with contributions collectively amounting to several million shillings.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is the leading donor after contributing Ksh 1 million to the family. He also directed his team to enrol Bayo’s children into the Kenyatta Trust, where they will receive full and long-term educational support.

President William Ruto offered another Ksh 1 Million, a donation delivered through Murang’a Woman Representative Hon Betty Maina. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki contributed Ksh 500,000, while Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria also donated Ksh 500,000 to aid the funeral preparations.

Major Donations Lead Fundraising Drive

Within the gospel fraternity, artist Shiro wa GP contributed Ksh 260,000, money that initially went to hospital admission fees when Bayo’s health deteriorated.

Family members, friends, and colleagues organised a private fundraiser that raised Ksh 1.3 million to help settle medical bills.

Community Support and Additional Contributions

Other gospel musicians and public figures have also visited the family home to provide further financial and moral support.

The committee continues to receive contributions from industry peers, including artists who worked closely with Bayo and those who previously collaborated with her in ministry, concerts, and community events.

Preparations for the burial are ongoing, with the family expected to release the full programme once logistical arrangements are finalised.

The committee has also indicated that volunteer groups and church teams have joined the planning process to support overall coordination.

Betty Bayo’s funeral budget comes at a time when several public figures’ families have revealed similarly high costs for burial preparations.

The family of content creator Milly wa Doc recently announced a burial budget of Ksh 2.5 million, while the family of TikToker Albert Ojwang set their funeral arrangements at Ksh 4.5 million.

In a separate case, the father of former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua made a public appeal for assistance to help raise Ksh 2.5 million needed for medical and burial-related expenses.

These cases highlight the increasing financial pressure faced by families organising burials for well-known personalities, where public attendance and extended programmes often raise overall costs.

Ongoing Efforts

The committee managing Betty Bayo’s burial says fundraising efforts will continue until all remaining costs are covered. Updates on contributions and the final programme will be shared as planning progresses.
