Twenty-six candidates have been shortlisted from a pool of 211 applicants seeking appointment as members of the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).

The announcement follows a comprehensive review of applications by the selection panel overseeing the recruitment process.

The list, published in a notice dated November 12, 2025, and signed by the panel’s chairperson, Erick Oduor, represents the latest stage in the ongoing effort to appoint new MCK members.

The process is being conducted under the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

According to the notice, the panel assessed applicants based on statutory requirements, professional experience, as well as gender and regional considerations before finalising the 26 names.

The shortlisted candidates will now proceed to interviews, scheduled over three days from November 19 to November 21, 2025.

“The shortlisted candidates are expected to appear before the selection panel on the dates and times indicated. The interviews will be conducted at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Muranga Road, Ngara, Nairobi,” the notice states.

The first batch of nine candidates will appear on November 19, starting at 8:30 a.m. They include: Virginia Wangari Ndungu, Ibrahim Mutwiri Kirimi, Osil Caroline, David Kiplagat, Moses Kipkemoi, Risper Awuor, Kinoti Gituma, Kemunto Nyabuti Damaris, and Washington Opiyo Sati.

Other shortlisted candidates include CPA Enock Nyanchoga, FCPA Edwin Makori, Dr Abduba Mollu Ido, Barbara M’Mbaka, Delilah Kadzo Ngala, Judith Wambura, Fatuma Sanbur, Abdullahi Hassan Maalim, Janarose Kaithi, Simmy Marwa, Mary Nasieku Yiapan, Samson Owino, Kosgei Kemboi Alvin, Jemima Kodero, Steve Bakari Apot, and Ephraim Percy Kenyanito.

The panel emphasised that all shortlisted applicants must appear in person and bring original identification documents, academic and professional certificates, testimonials, and statutory clearance documents.

These include compliance or clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The shortlisting comes at a critical time for the media sector, which continues to navigate challenges related to traditional journalism, digital platforms, regulation of online expression, and public expectations around transparency and accountability.

Following the interviews, the selection panel will forward the names of successful candidates to the Cabinet Secretary for further processing, leading to gazettement and formal appointment.
