Kenyan-born internet sensation and comedian Elsa Majimbo has once again ignited conversation online after sharing a thought-provoking statement about marriage and happiness.

Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Majimbo wrote, “The person you marry determines your misery or happiness.”

The post quickly went viral, attracting thousands of reactions within hours. While some users praised her for voicing an uncomfortable truth about relationships, others accused her of being overly pessimistic.

The statement has since opened a broader discussion about compatibility, emotional health, and the role of partners in shaping one’s life satisfaction.

Fans React to Majimbo’s Statement

Majimbo’s followers had mixed reactions to her post. Supporters described her take as “raw and real.''

Others disagreed, arguing that happiness is a personal responsibility, independent of one’s spouse.

Some social media users linked her remarks to her personal life, suggesting that her views might be influenced by her previous relationships.

However, Majimbo did not clarify whether the post was inspired by her own experiences or was simply a general reflection.

In another instance, Majimbo humorously declared that her dowry would cost US$ 4 million  comment that drew amusement and criticism alike, with some calling her expectations unrealistic while others praised her confidence and self-worth.

Her outlook extends beyond finances; earlier this year, she declared she intends to live a child-free life, tweeting, “Child free till the day I die. I’m a mother to my freedom.” 

This statement echoed her consistent theme of independence and personal choice, even when it contradicts societal expectations.

Her Take on Race, Privilege, and Marriage Choices

In a 2022 , Majimbo declared she plans to marry outside her culture and continent, saying, “Not only am I going to marry outside my culture, but I’m also going to marry outside my continent.”

She clarified that her decision is not rooted in colorism but in her desire for her future children to enjoy greater global mobility and privilege.

“My kids deserve another passport!” she said, citing frustrations with visa barriers and limited access caused by African passports.

“The money and opportunities I’ve missed, it hurts inside… it’s not my country’s fault. It’s the world that is the problem,” she added.

Her remarks drew mixed reactions — with some fans agreeing that global privilege affects opportunity, while others accused her of distancing herself from her African roots.

A Glimpse Into Her Relationship History

In December 2022, Majimbo introduced her then-boyfriend DJ Hakeem to the public, sharing affectionate photos and thanking him for bringing “so much happiness” into her life.

Fans celebrated the relationship, describing her as “glowing with love." However, the pair reportedly parted ways in mid-2024.

According to Majimbo, the relationship ended after a trust-related dispute during a work trip in Miami, an incident she described as the final straw. The breakup, though private, appeared to influence her later reflections on relationships and trust.
