There was immense joy and celebration at Nyanchwa Hospital in Kisii town earlier this week. A mother delivered four babies at the same time. The hospital staff were heard celebrating the rare event.
According to a report by Citizen TV, the mother, Vane Nyanchoka Ontweka, was filled with happiness following the lengthy process. The birth occurred on Monday morning. The cries of these four babies, brought into the world, caused many people present to hold their breath.

Dramatic Delivery in Kisii
The delivery was carried out through a Caesarean section (CS). Hospital staff noted the historical nature of the birth.
"It's the first time that we delivered quadruplets here."

The hospital confirmed they had previously delivered triplets. However, delivering four babies simultaneously was a first for the facility. Health workers were delighted and excited to receive the babies.
The mother revealed that the number of children was unexpected. An ultrasound scan prior to the birth had indicated that there were three babies. She had prepared for three, but during the operation, four children were recognised.

A Name Fit for Heroes
The four children were immediately given names connected to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his wife, Ida.
The naming decision sparked curiosity among the hospital staff. The mother explained the reasoning behind choosing the names of the "hero".
She noted that the birth happened during a time when they felt they had "just lost Raila". The mother regarded Odinga as "our hero".
She felt the birth signified a political return.
"I was like, Raila has come back and with such a big swing."
Three of the babies were boys, and one was a girl. The three boys were named Raila, Amolo and Odinga. The mother mentioned that the babies came "not one, not two, but three". The fourth baby was a surprise.

The fourth baby, described as the smallest, was a girl. She was named Ida – Raila Odinga’s wife. The mother mentioned that she already had twins before this birth.
The six children, including the new quadruplets, mean the mother now has six children in total.

Looking Ahead
As she begins the journey of caring for the four new babies—Raila Amolo, Odinga, and Ida—the mother faces significant challenges. The hospital staff acknowledged the heavy burden this brings.
The hospital is now considering how to assist with the associated costs. There has been an appeal for support for the family.
"Anybody willing to come in and be able to assist her in whichever way to take care of the kids will be much appreciated."
