A viral video has surfaced online capturing an awkward moment between controversial city preacher Pastor Victor Kanyari and TikToker Nyawira Kamotho.
The two, who have long been rumoured to be romantically involved, are no strangers to public attention. Their antics have previously attracted widespread criticism, though Nyawira has remained defiant, defending her relationship and dismissing unsolicited opinions from critics.
The latest controversy follows footage from one of Kanyari’s church services, where he appeared to make remarks about Nyawira’s marital status — comments that many Kenyans found distasteful and humiliating.
Despite the backlash, the TikToker reaffirmed her affection for the preacher, insisting that their relationship is built on mutual understanding and personal choice.

In the recent clip filmed inside Kanyari’s church, the preacher is seen at the pulpit, which had been transformed into a makeshift kitchen.
A man dressed in Maasai attire carried around roasted maize, while another prepared assorted cuts of meat nearby. Kanyari, seated comfortably, was seen enjoying the meal as Nyawira sang beside him into a microphone.

Moments later, Nyawira unexpectedly went down on one knee and appeared to present a ring to the pastor. Kanyari briefly glanced at her but ignored the gesture, while Nyawira persistently tugged at his arm.
One of the men serving food looked on in amusement as the preacher continued to resist her advances. Eventually, Nyawira rose to her feet and walked away smiling, leaving the congregation murmuring in disbelief.
The video sparked heated reactions online, with many Kenyans questioning the sanctity of the altar and the pair’s behaviour.
One user, Carol❤, commented, “It is either the altar is dead spiritually or a food covenant is taking place here.” Another wrote, “Is this really normal, Nyawira? You’ve turned the church into a comedy.”
Others echoed similar sentiments: “The pastor is eating while the congregation watches. Even the Maasai man looks confused,” one user said.
Cate Mash asked, “Does she have relatives?” while Damaris Ragui added, “How low is the bar? Is this even a church?”
Not the First Time
This is not the first time a woman has made a bold gesture toward Pastor Kanyari. In September 2024, gospel singer Justina Syokau created a stir when she went down on her knees during a church service and asked the preacher to marry her.
“Will you marry me?” she asked Kanyari as the congregation cheered her on. The two later laughed it off, with Syokau going on to praise the pastor for being a devoted father and role model.
“There’s one thing I’ve seen — this pastor is good. I admire how he takes his children out, ensures they study abroad, and protects them,” she said. The Twendi Twendi hitmaker further described Kanyari as a good example to single mothers like herself, adding that she prays for a husband who values and protects his children the same way.
