Winger Lameck Ambetsa in action for Kabras/HANDOUT

Nondies head coach Moses Wanyaga believes the arrival of star winger Lameck Ambetsa gives the club much-needed depth as they chase the 2025–2026 Kenya Cup title.

Ambetsa joined the club last week from Kabras Sugar. He is eligible to play in the Impala Floodlit tournament, but cannot feature in the Kenya Cup until the December transfer window, when his paperwork will be completed.

Wanyaga praised the winger, who won three Kenya Cup and two Enterprise Cup titles with Kabras, saying his experience and winning mentality will lift the team.

“He brings pedigree, terrific pace and finishing, especially to our wing positions. He will add value to the team since he is an Olympian for the Kenya Sevens team,” said Wanyaga.

Nondies face neighbours Impala in the Floodlit semi-final on Saturday at the latter’s ground. Wanyaga said Ambetsa’s tactical awareness and experience would be key.

“He is expected to play a key role, having played several matches for Kabras. It will be a tough match, especially with the prevailing weather conditions. It will call on us to adapt and be ready for a competitive game,” he added.

Ambetsa, an alumnus of Bungoma High School and an engineering graduate from Masinde Muliro University, said the move was the right step to rediscover his form.

“It’s a chance to rediscover rhythm and look at exploring my engineering career and building my brand,” said Ambetsa.

He missed the entire 2024–2025 season after suffering a tibia injury during the Paris Olympics, but confirmed he is now fully fit.

“I’m back to full fitness, and being in a new environment, I want to help Nondies, with the rest of the team, win silverware this season and build a foundation for future success,” he said.

Ambetsa has been joined at Nondies by Brian Ayimba, who left Homeboyz, and Wanyaga believes the new signings add depth to the outside backs as they prepare for the new season.
