Popular Kenyan actress and content creator Nyaboke Moraa has once again opened up about her enduring pain over the loss of her firstborn daughter, Marrie Achieng, who passed away in July 2024.
In an emotional Instagram story shared this week, Nyaboke wrote,
“15 months on, eternity to go. A date that gives me shivers, my stomach and womb hurt to the core. Oh my… death is ghetto.”
The heartfelt message marked 15 months since Marrie’s death, a tragedy that continues to weigh heavily on the actress.

The Tragic Loss
News of Marrie’s death broke on July 28, 2024, when fellow actress Sandra Dacha shared the devastating update on social media.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce to you the passing on of @nyabokemoraa’s daughter. Your prayers is what she needs right now. Rest in Peace, Marrie,” Dacha wrote in a moving Instagram post.
The cause of Marrie’s death has never been publicly disclosed, and Nyaboke has largely chosen to grieve in private, occasionally sharing glimpses of her emotional journey online.

Adding to her heartbreak, Marrie’s death came barely a month after Nyaboke lost her elder brother in June 2024. At the time, she mourned him in a social media post that read,
“One minute we are happy and enjoying, the next minute we are lost. The Nyariki family has been struck yet again. We have lost our big brother… hatutapumua hii mwaka jameni in our family? Sigh.”
Struggling With Grief and Insomnia
In the months following her daughter’s passing, Nyaboke Moraa has been candid about her struggles with mental health and insomnia. During a TikTok live session, she revealed her difficulty sleeping despite trying several remedies.
“You see, this is melatonin, and they’re all pills to help me sleep, but they don’t help. I cannot sleep. I have even tried hibiscus tea, but it doesn’t help me sleep,” she confessed, showing several bottles of sleep medication.
Nyaboke added that during the first days after Marrie’s death, she relied on sleep-inducing injections to get through the nights.
Her honesty about grief and mental health has sparked conversations online, with fans and fellow celebrities praising her for breaking the silence around emotional pain and loss.
