
Police in Siaya are investigating an incident where a 63-year-old woman was found murdered in her house in Maemba village, Ndori.
The body of Alice Atieno was found in her bedroom moments after he murder on Wednesday morning.
The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said.
She was alone in her room when an assailant struck. Her employee said she had earlier called him, saying she needed to see her.
When the worker went to check on her, he found her mobile phone outside the house.
He said he also found the door partially opened and on checking, he found the body of the woman sprawled on the bed and in a pool of blood.
The police were called to the scene and collected a kitchen knife and a jembe believed to have been used in the mission.
The team also recovered blood-stained curtains and the mobile phone and kept them as exhibits in the murder probe.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Police said no arrest had been made and efforts to solve the murder are ongoing.
Elsewhere in Baragoi, Samburu county, a 65-year-old man was killed in an altercation with an assailant.
The reasons for the altercation were not immediately revealed in the Wednesday incident, police said.
The body of Pangi Lengewa was found lying in a pool of blood after the attack. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He and the assailant had been engaged in an altercation that went bad. The assailant used a club to strike him on the head, killing him.
Police said the assailant was later arrested in the area and the killer weapon recovered pending grilling and possible arraignment.
The body was moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Such fatal fights have been common in the area amid efforts to solve them, police say.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman died after being trapped in a gold mining site in Kegonga, Migori county.
Police said Velma Kwamboka was among a group that had ventured into an abandoned gold mining site in Karosi area on Wednesday when it collapsed, trapping them.
The woman died on the spot, while three others were rescued and taken to a local hospital.
The body of the woman was taken to a local hospital pending autopsy.
Such incidents are common in the area amid a campaign to address unsafe gold mining.
